Yeah, I know exactly what you mean.  When I bought my first Vanagon, I was
looking forward to the winter driving prowess for which the air-cools were
legendary.  I had heard many tales from my brother-in-law of how his '68 loaf
would get his guys into hunting areas, then wait for the Jeeps to catch up.
Boy, was I disappointed!  I eventually went to Hakkapeliitta's but, I never
cared for studded tires.  I run too much on the dry to really justify them.
