Kim--

The 411 was the earlier model (1968-1972ish) the 412 was later through 1974.

The differences over the years are mostly cosmetic, or minor mechanical; 72 to 85 hp Type 4 motor (essentially same as 1980-1983.5 Vanagon), slight changes in the front suspension, etc. There was a four dour, two door, and two door wagon. Automatic, or manual. Some had AC. Most had a BA4 furnace which brings the interior of mine to >80 degrees (f) within a couple minutes.

They are very roomy, handle well, and get 21-27 mpg. The seats are ergonomically designed, broad, and VERY comfortable.

Since I've owned every other Type 4-powered vehicle (914, 912e, 2 Busses, and now an '82 Westfalia) I figured I needed one of these. I was right. It is great.

See www.type4.org for more.
