Hi, what you can do is run your fingers along the inside of the bearing, pressing on them, as the bearing is turning you should be able to feel anything that may mean the bearings need to be re-packed, or replaced. If you just have some play, that probably just means that they need to be re-packed, a simple and quick process, just messy. If you happen to notice that the cage, or race has any discrepencies, then I would just replace them. It doesn't take very long to check wheel bearings.

I've just noticed that when the rear wheels of the van are off the ground they've got maybe 1/16" or 1/8" of play at the outer edge - like the wheel bearings are loose. They don't make any noise, though. Is this something I should worry about? I've got an extra set of bearings, but would rather not have to deal with it at this point, if I don't have to.
