Subject: Headlight relays and wire routing
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed

Well, I got a chance to drive the westy after dark for the first time. I must say, those are some of the most dismal headlights I've ever seen!

So, last night I gathered up enough parts to do the headlight relay thing, and tonight I'll try and do it...

I'll run 2 10 gauge wires (fused of course) from the battery to the front of the bus. One of the wires will be dedicated headlight power, and the other I will connect to a terminal block so I've got a good electrically sturdy place to connect accessories that need to be hot all the time. I will also connect the wire thru an extra relay and then to a second terminal block. I'll set up the relay to energize with key on, so the second block will be hot only with key on for accessories that like it that way.

Sooo... I figured I would route the wires out of the battery box through the same grommet as the main +12 cable. From there I will route it forward under the van and bring it back up inside the cab... where?

I looked underneath the front for a minute and didn't see any obvious easy places to get the wires back into the cab and under the dash. Can someone clue me in where a good place might be where I can slip 2 #10's in alongside something else without drilling any holes?

Maybe someone who has done this already can save my aging bones a few minutes under the van. (-:

Thanks much for any tips

Steve
