The fuel pump should run, to actuate the cold start injector while you are cranking your engine. The AFM controls it after that through the double relay. It should not just run without your engine running. If 86 Waser Boxers don't have the double relay I stand corrected. I speak specifically about my knowledge of Air Cooled Injected Engines. (it that Ok for a disclaimer?)
