If you have a local Harbor Freight (supplier of disposable tools...) they sell a wonderfully cheap 1/2" breaker bar and sockets that are ideal in this situation. Get the 6 point socket if you can! This thing also comes in handy when you need to remove the rear axle nut... 42 mm though.
