It is very popular to swap a VR6 engine into an A2 VW chassis, as well as into 2.0l A3's.

I know of several BMW owners who have swapped in M Series motors into their non M Series cars. And I mean e36 M3 3.2l into an e30 325iX.

I also know of several individuals who have swapped Audi 5000 Turbo engines into their 4000 Quattros.

And those are the only three carmakers I know anything about. I'm sure their must be other examples.
