If you have your speedometer out you can paint the pointer with liquid paper / whiteout to bring it back to its full glory. Might change colors if you like. Be sure your liquid paper / white out doesn't have any lumps in it and flows thin. If you break the needle off or have some broken needle speedometers in your junk box you can take a generic flat toothpick, finish it off smooth with the fine side of a nail file and super glue it to the little remaining hub and stem.
