Sorry if this seems late, but I am way behind on my e-mail....

Alistair mentioned a noise could be transmitted in the shift linkage. Yep! At high rpm's my gearshift would buzz. At first, I thought it was the plastic knob being cracked, so I replaced it with a finely crafted solid walnut replacement knob (from my own shop). Still got the buzz, so that wasn't it. There is a lot of vibration coming through. I believe that the buzz is from worn-out shifter parts rattling somewhere, and maybe a new shift-kit is in my future. But anyway, there is definitely a component of vibration/noise from the shift linkage.

(Hmmm.....hand-made walnut shift knobs w/VW inlay??.....cottage industry??.....)
