If one or the other, i.e., spark or fuel, is missing or untoward, then you will know where to direct your attention. Don't sweat the ECU. It is a fairly hardened device. Just don't be stupid with it such as connecting your welding machine ground to it. In fact, exercising the mass connector to the ECU might restore the connections which have degraded with time and, as a consequence, clear the fault which is causing your problem. Note, I said MIGHT.
