(1) Neat trick to removing the pilot bearing... fill the hole FULL of grease. Then get an M12 bolt insert it into the pilot bearing. It *just* fits. Then get a BFH (Big Freaking Hammer) and whack the bolt - due to hydraulic the pilot bearing will usually pop right out. (2) I have always seen a little wobble in the input shaft - 1/16" of in inch sounds fine. I removed the tranny from my 82 diesel Westy today to replace the clutch and input shaft seal. 1. How do I remove the pilot bearing? 2. I have about 1/16" play in the input shaft to the tranny, is this normal? 3. If not, why with only 52k miles on the tranny? THANKS |
