Most engines rotate the correct way to bolt straight to a Type 2 (Vanagon) trans. Including Chev Vs (the Corvair and some Honda fours are the few exceptions).

My 84 Caravelle had a 174hp 1989 Holden 3.8 V6 (multipoint injected) in it when I bought it... with nonstock 4th & 5th gears, so it would hit 190kmh easily. Acceleration in the lower gears was fierce. But the trans wasn't up to the job and failed. The Australian Holden (GM) V6 is loosely based on the evenfire Buick but much improved. There were no NVH issues... it was smooth and quiet. Economical it wasn't.

The decklid was attached to a nicely-finished wall which fitted tidily onto the stock seal and used extended VW fasteners. It sat about 7" higher than normal. Looked factory... still got it, won't need it with the SVX conversion.

Yes, but in a Toyota Hiace. If it works in this (it's a hot 13B) it'll work in a VW van. The owner loves it... it's his workshop vehicle. -- Andrew Grebneff 165 Evans St, Dunedin 9001, New Zealand <andrew.grebneff@stonebow.otago.ac.nz> Seashell, Macintosh, VW/Toyota van nut
