   my '82 van, stick shift, gets a miserable 10-11 mpg in the city (s.f.)
and 19-21 on the freeway. apparent reason for the lousy city mileage is that
it spends most of its time in slow-moving stop-and-go traffic, rarely
getting into even 4th gear. art
