In the early 80s everyone's plastics did. I've never seen an 80s (or earlier) car of any make that didn't have that disease where all the plastic turns white and chalky and gets brittle. It's just the nature of what they had at the time. I still remember the time my mom grabbed the inside door handle of her Mustang II and it broke off in her hand.
