MB, my man, maybe this is what you should have done first: check for spark and fuel. Using a spark plug as the test instrument, visually check for spark while it is cranking. If you have a decent spark, put out your cigarette and pull the injectors to see if they are spraying some form of atomized fuel while the engine is cranking. If you have both of these elements pulling for you, the engine should at least cough. If one or the other, i.e., spark or fuel, is missing or untoward, then you will know where to direct your attention.

Don't sweat the ECU. It is a fairly hardened device. Just don't be stupid with it such as connecting your welding machine ground to it. In fact, exercising the mass connector to the ECU might restore the connections which have degraded with time and, as a consequence, clear the fault which is causing your problem. Note, I said MIGHT.
