Actually there was a gentleman (whose name escapes me) who was a student at GMI. IIRC, there was a problem with gearing. Once again, IIRC, the Vanagon gearing caused the Chevy to spin much higher than it was comfortable at. Additionally, IIRC, engine balance was a problem.

I'm sure the whole discussion is in the archives. (Yup, found the thread: Search on "chevy" around the beginning of 1996.)
