HI Dave, AC Compressors need lubrication in the Freon. If you compress air there will be no lubrication, an the compressor will not last. There are a few compressors that have oil seperate from the freon, but the Vanagon setup is not one of them. Also I would not add air to a propane tank. Propane without oxygen is not dangerous, but mixing them, you are making a bomb! I would use an old freon tank. Freon does not burn. Eric
