<P>I had this problem, right after it was rebuilt and the torque converter cleaned. It so happened that the converter had loose matter that the cleaning only made worse, wich in turn clogged the filter screen, wich blocked the pressure to the valve body, making the trnasmission whine and it just stopped running. Rebuilding the converter and cleaning the filter made it go away.</P>

<DIV></DIV>my ignorance. I have a newly-acquired '90 Carat that won't go. Not only will
<DIV></DIV>it not move forward or backward, but the transmission makes a loud squealing
<DIV></DIV>noise similar to a loose power-steering or A/C belt. It does this whether
<DIV></DIV>the selector's in neutral, reverse, drive etc. The PO thought it might be
<DIV></DIV>the torque convertor, but again, I have no idea. I plan on pulling the
<DIV></DIV>transaxle and having a look, but I'd like to know what I should be looking
<DIV></DIV>for. Any help would be MUCH appreciated. I'm also in need of a source for a
<DIV></DIV>rebuilt trans, assuming this one is shot. If it matters, the engine is
<DIV></DIV>fairly recent, but the trans looks original to the van (~110K). TIA-
