Helen,

I wanted so much to put a TDD or TDI in my 84 automatic westy but it isn't a possible match. The only vanagons to have diesels matched to automatic transmissions were some taxi's in Berlin which had a top speed of 45 or 50 mph. You'll have to stick with a gas conversion or switch to another vanagon with a manual.

Sorry, Bob 84 westy
