Subject: Re: The Flat Tire Encounter

Flat tires and New Mexico? Interesting. On our annual NM trip 2 years ago we had the rear passenger tire come apart-- complete delamination, chewing up the sheet metal behind it. This was on the little twisty mountain road above White Sands and taught me the value of driving while awake. Funny thing, the tire held air just fine in the remaining layer of rubber (these were the Uniroyals that were heavily recommended on the list a few years ago). Then, to cap things off, the dadgum Vanagon drunken monkey jack broke clean in half. Even funnier (ha ha) the next day the other rear tire did exactly the same thing, but instead in heavy traffic at 70 on the highway. We HAD gone through Roswell....
