Subject: Vanagon front seat "mystery hole"
Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

When I as at the wreckers recently, I noticed something on a couple of vans that I have never seen before. A small (2" diameter") hole on right hand side part the front face of the front seat "pedestal", right behind where the driver's foot would be.

One of the vans had the entire front end of van cut off so I could look straight back at the front seat and I noticed this plastic flange and plug, I pushed the plug and it opened inward.

Another van I looked at had the carpeting peeled back around that area and there was a hole but no plastic flange. Other vans had no hole nor even a "dimple" in the sheet metal indication a punch out area.

Anyone have any idea what this is for?

Alistair
