Be careful, the seal isn't supposed to be a real water seal. If you succeed in making it one you'll have your own personal lake up there. ;)

Are you sure it's coming from the carrier? Does your canvas balloon in? On my '75 I had terrible air leaks where the top met the carrier, that created a lot of wind noise. The canvas would literally inflate inwards at highway speeds. I used foam air conditioner weatherstripping to fill the gaps, and it cut down the noise. (The top was twisted in front -- the wood brace laid up inside the fiberglass had warped.)
