New Stereo...
A friend of mine has a Sanyo tape/cd combo, it works well but get VERY hot.
I have an Aiwa deck that has an AUX INPUT on the front.  You can get a standard headphone male to male chord and plug any old portable tape player into it.  In fact, you could plug an MP3 player, a portable TV, ect, into it.
I like it ALOT and it was cheap.  I definitely recommend the aux input.  You may want to consider the new decks tha can play mp3's.  You can fit more music on one cd for long road trips.
Also, consider the remote control.  THis keeps your hands and EYEs on the road.  You don't have to reach for the player once you get used to the remote control (I know, it sounds silly but try it, you'll never go back).
