We have found the vibrations to caused by a poorly designed AC compressor and Alternator bracket.

My first impression of the bracket was it looked flimsy. A Tiico owner in Oregon has this vibration problem so severe it breaks the AC comp mounting bolts, etc. with the belts disconnected briefly and the engine run, there are no vibrations.

Solution: replace the SA brackets with US Golf- Jetta brackets.

This inline four engine is otherwise at least equal in reliability to the WBX .

VW's made to date do not use a WBX design, but inline four, five and VR-6 design. There must be a good reason for this. I can think of a few.

The last person to have a leaking head posted on the list a few days ago(I forgot who) , and was almost hysterical about it. He said he thought it would never happen to him.

Leaking head gaskets aren't your only worry. Leaking fuel lines-the WBX has fuel lines draped all over the engine. these lines are covered with plastic sheathing, and all should be ripped out and replaced already.

I have a Vanagon that has a brand new engine that had a fire. . The PO had a shop put the new motor in, but they did'nt replace the plastic ftting that goes thru the firewall, prone to breaking , and so a fire started in the engine compartment.

SO, no matter which way you go, make sure who ever does the work replaces this fitting and all the lines.

If this was done there would be few Vanagon whiners..
