My argument was not to state that shops wont work on a Tiico engine. If they are a VW shop they will be MORE likely to work on it than they would if your van had a Japanese engine in it. Not to mention the fact that most VW specialty shops (mine included) have OBD II diagnostic equipment on site. As to the idea that the Tiico doesnt offer a whole lot of power increase over the 2.1l might be fairly accurate. Although the Tiico doesnt offer 50hp over the 2.1l it is still a very tuneable engine. It is not unheard of to tweak the 2.ol I-4 engine to 150hp. I dont know what exactly you are trying to say about the rpms on the freeway. changing the engine is not going to make the gear ratios different. Not to mention that the I-4 characteristics make it much happier in the higher rpm vs. the 2.1l. If you are taking your van to a shop that looks at your Tiico engine and says "sorry I cant help you" you probably should be having them do any standard repairs either.
