Anyway, is there a policy that Jiffy Lube does not service Vanagons any
more? Larry.

That is a good thing; not bad.
I had a Quick Lube (Not Jiffy) change my tranny grease in my manual, they
flushed it out drained it and I got a mix of 75% gear lube and 25%
flushing solvent. My tranny lasted about another 6000 miles.
I found an oversized plug that they threw in for free but they never
mentioned to me that the stripped my oil drain plug.
Once the top side guy was calling off grease fitting locations to the guy
in the pit and with each call the pit guy said "Got it" after they
printed the invoice I told them to take the price of the grease job off
since there wasn't a single fitting under there to put grease in. I
didn't get a fight about it .......... just deducted it, no problem.
I've got an old Olds with 168K on it and they would not service the
automatic transmission on any car with over 100K on it. Just policy.
I have requested Penzoil 20/50 and they put in Valvoline 10/30
............. I could see the Valvoline drum pump just going to town and
they said they didn't have Penzoil on the location in 20/50 w.
You really need to do the simple things yourself if at all possible, its
mostly a situation of things you need to be watching and doing your own
oil changes, filter, strainer, air cleaner, CV packing.
Never let them put grease in your CVs ............. they don't have
anything but chasis grease and it accelerates CV joint failure.
I have five or six Bus and Vanagon owners that bring their vehicles to me
for small service jobs and I keep track of maintenance and record it in
small notebooks I've provided for them to keep in the van.
If they start hearing funny noises or seeing oil lights, alternator
indicators or such they make notes in the book for me and in most cases
it is a simple fix with their cooperation.
Pocket change for me and peace of mind for them.
