OK, the inner (driving) lights are square, and a single wattage. They come on only when the high beams are on. The outer lights (headlights?) are dual wattage, for high and low beam. The outers have a pretty poor reflector pattern, and in my experience, the 80/100 W bulbs don't make a lot of difference there, though the relays help a lot. The inners do well with the 100 W bulbs, in conjunction with the stock outer bulbs and relays. (And bigger fuses). So, when the low beams are on, you should have the outer lamps only, at low wattage. When the high beams are on, you should have the outer lamps at high wattage, and the inner lamps. Now I'm really cornfused!! The driving lights aren't the highbeam lights? So in a low beam siutation which lights are supposed to be lighted and which are off. When in a high beam situation which ones are on and which are supposed to be off??? I'm not sure mine are working right!!! Thanks, John Rodgers 88 GL Driver. Ben McCafferty wrote: Driving lights are the inner, square ones, with a single wattage bulb. If you buy the 100W bulb from your FLAPS, it will have a tab on it that will prevent installation. The tab is easily removed with sidecutters. But remember that you need relays before using higher wattage bulbs. Also remember that the driving lights only come on with the high beams, so they won't help your low beam situation. tx, bmc :) Ben McCafferty ben@volkscafe.com Volks Cafe 1823 Soquel Avenue Santa Cruz, CA 95062 831-426-1244 http://volkscafe.com

Hello Volks, would anyone know, if I can use an 80/100 watt, 9004 bulb in my main head light housing? Here's a link I found, which lists some nice bulbs. I thought 86 +Vanagons used 9004 bulbs, but I can't remember. http://www.midnightmoose.com/9004.htm Anyhow, I am just curious if I can upgrade my main bulbs to (80/100 watt) something like these.
