No problem using the Dex 3. Since the trans was out to change the Torque
converter, I would have went for overhauling the AT section. There are
so many cavities in there for stuff to accumulate, you'll be pulling it
out forever. I doubt the combustion gasses caused the ATF cooler to fail
butit is not that uncommon an occurrence. Personally, using hot engine
coolant to cool the ATF is one of VW's lame ideas. Some type of
exchanger in the retrun from the radiator would have made more sense.
Than again, a separate ATF cooler would be best.

Hey dennis, That was fast, well i should have explained "dirty". My
AT
oil cooler went blooie. Im pretty sure it was on a short trip. Exaust
leaked into the cooling system(complete head job on both sides only just
now
complete)we feel that this is why the cooler failed. New cooler
installed
rebuilt torque converter, so most of the bad mix has been removed. AT
pump
turned by hand and cleaner then introduced. Then squirt bottle with
fresh AT
fluid was used to take in as much clean fluid as we could . More than
alot
of nasty stuff came out of trans. @nd gear brake band removed all seals
replaced and alot of crud was removed. Hoping that AT is not too far
gone!!!!! Praying to God please let it fucking work!! But anyhow is the
Dex
III ok to use? Thanks for the reply... Raul '89 wolfie GL
