On my 85 GL: I took the guts out of the old speakers so I could re-use the grills. Then I cut the center out of two of my daughters toy tea set plates because I needed a circular piece of plastic just larger than the old speaker grill to use as a backing plate. I then drilled holes through the grill/tea plate combo so they matched the mounting holes on my boston acoustics speakers. Used nuts and bolts to hold the finished assembly to the door panel. The tea plate and mounting nuts are painted black so they look nice. On a side note; I was able to use the old speaker wires with no problem. I had heard about the vanagons having grounded speakers that I would have to run new wires for, but mine was not like that. Joe
