Here in California, the only way that I know to "clean" a salvage title is
to get the insurance company (or whomever reported it as salvaged) to
reverse the salvage report, or wait till it drops off the DMV computer.
When I worked as a contractor at DMV headquarters I learned that vehicle
histories are kept for approximately 5 years. So, after 5 years you could
re-register the vehicle using a bill of sale and receive a clean title.
Cheers,
Jeff

geez that sucks.. but no condolences will make up for the damage.. dont
give
up - a totalled vehicle can actually be in your favor if you plan on keeping
it for a while.. if they total it - make sure you get a decent amount -
'87
westy GL id say worth at least $7-$10k depending on condition before it was
stolen - and then you buy it back from them for the salvage value. do the
cleanup work yourself, fix the seat, have it repainted. you will actually
come out ahead, having some extra $$ and still get to keep your camper.
and
if you sell it, if the salvage title bothers you, you could actually go with
a title company and for $200 bucks they can re-issue you a good new title
....
there are ways to buck the system and make it work for you..
good luck, and if you need any parts to fix your westy there's a guy in
SoCal
- Sorin Bejenaru, or i also have parts too.
good luck in your fight with the InsCo..
