Well with my bloody knuckle and all, I drove 40 mile rt to work, with the "stock" brackets and no more "black ticco plate"

Yes, it is a normal engine now. Vibs yes, but sound/drone no. Feels like a 2.0 litter engine with modest engine mounts..

Sounds the same from 2000 to 5000 rpm. Just faster. I can no long no rpm by the tone of the sound, I can only tell by the "speed" of the noise.

It seems that that all that sound come from that black tiico plate. (or is it the source of vibrations that resonate elsewere?)

Here is some thinking.

The stock vw mounting bracket setup uses a "hinge" as you pointed out. At no time does the stock setup try to bolt a ridge bracket at more than 3 locations - without introducing some sort of "compliant" hinge or joint.

In contrast, the ticco bracket is massive and rigid, but tries to bolt to the engine block at 5 locations at once. There is no way the punny bolts could "bend" that plate assembly, and if they did, it would have a lot of "stored" energy. The plates mounting points are not even ground to any tolerance - just look like there are placed in a jig the welded.

Extra interesting is that if you drop the plate on the floor it "rings" clear like a bell. It's sort of "energetic" rather than "damp". Hard for me to believe that noise when it just looks like a mass of welded mild steel.

It think the plate "hums" and "resonates" in it's imperfect fit. Or is it imperfect axis of rotation alignment per what Frank G is always pointing out?

The stock plates can really have no resonance, since they are at most, a three pint tripod.

Now I just have to work out a few details, like belt routing, clearance, etc.. etc... etc, That the drawback, the plate handled all the clearance and belt route problems.

I wonder if we could modify the ticco plate to work correctly? Apparently some people's plate are stable.

Thanks for the tip, I am pretty sure that this is the point of the problem.
