Hope your recovery from the firecracker goes well. The
freezer is the wrong place to put the parts if you
want to disassemble them. By freezing the parts you
make the parts smaller. And consequently the clearance
or possibly in this case interference tighter.
Freezing would be good in the case of the pin but the
shaft is a different story because of thermal
expansion the fit actually gets tighter when chilled.
So ideally you would heat the shaft and freeze the
pin(remember for reassembly) The proper place is the
oven assuming that there are no plastic parts left on
the shaft. You would be safe warming it to about 350F
then carefully removing from oven and using
(preferably) a brass drift and wooden v-blocks to
attempt to drive the pin out. This would be a good
place for a helper to hold with insulating gloves or
better yet clamp it. I use a set of brass jaws in a
vise for this, with a v-cut for shafts. Good Luck.
