got a flyer in the mail today from Craftsman/Sears ... and there's an interesting little gizmo in there. it's a "fits all standard ratchets" torque sensor. (yeah, i'm wondering how it'll fit a 1/2-inch ratchet as well as a 1/4-inch ratchet!). aha! down at the bottom, in small print it sez "1/2-inch" ... so i guess that's the "standard size". it fits between the ratchet and the socket, and is magically electrical/electronic/PFM? as it has a wire that runs off to a volt-meter-looking thingie what reads out the torque in 0.1 ft-lb increments. plus or minus 3 percent accuracy from 50 to 150 ft-lbs. preset target with torque alert. extra long 54-inch wire/cable.

now comes da Gotcha! :)

$116.99 u.s. bucks.

kinda high for me to go buy as a toy. and too gimmicky for me to buy as a serious tool. and it adds about 2 inches to the length of the socket-rachet combo ... so if you're wanting to get into tight places, it ain't gonna work.

anybody tried this thing yet? :)

joel
