In my '85, I open the cover of the housing attached to the firewall at the front left of the engine compartment, and clamp the pos cable to the terminal there. The negative terminal I clamp to any handy spot on the engine, away from moving belts.

*Sigh* Even the seemingly simplest things working on the Pokeswagen makes me feel like a dumbass.

So my good old timing light that worked beautifully on my Ford seems to have the distinct drawback that it doesn't have *12' of cable to get to the battery!* Argh!!! I searched Gerry, found a bazillion slooooow hits on timing lights and the following advice:

- Connect it to terminal 15 on the coil & ground to engine. - Connect it to the positive terminal on the alternator and ground to engine.

Can I assume either of these options will work. All that I read about the sensitive nature of the various ignition and fuel injection system components has me still spooked and the last thing I want to do is blow something out.
