I picked up a rust-free* '86 Syncro Westy in New Mexico, over the Christmas vacation. The * is that it had 1 tiny bubble where the front bumper is welded to the main body, and there is a sealer used. However, that was 10 minutes to scrape the paint off and apply that rust converter stuff. That's it for any appreciable rust, anywhere. Heck, my '88 always in California Wolfie has a bit more rust by the bumper.

Check the great Southwest for rust-free bodies.

My Syncros is just about dead. Everything I touch is falling apart from rust or corrosion. I need to find the following, and build a new Syncro/westy.

Wanted: Vanagon, Syncro,or Camper, what have you. Body must be rust free. Nothing else matters Only minor body damage, ever, or ever been repaired. Have cash, for right vehicle. vw4x4@fyi.net
