I was very suprised that the internal ratios, as well as the transaxel, are the same. Who is to say, you can't run a disiel to 4000 rpm. The converter, is just pass through. Could the table in a bently manual be wrong? If you don't have one, here is what is says Jetta manual Vanagon manual 1.6 L diesel 1.8l GASOLINE ME Canada HT,RD,RV,PF 85 -87 tran code 010TL 010TNA or TN 090NK torque U K H code 1 2.71 2.71 2.71 2 1.50 1.50 1.50 3 1.00 1.00 1.00 F 3.41 3.41 2.46
John of Main, says both housing have the same "090" part number stamped on them. Note the vanagon runs larger tires, so the F drives is only 10% lower than the jetta
I find it interesting how many parts are shared. It sort of makes sense.

Mr. McNock, You know it is strange that the gear ratios is the same for the gas and diesel engine. It should be different because the gas engine can rev higher that the diesel engine. Would it be the torque converter that would make the difference to enable the engine to work with that ratio? I'm not an expert in tranny but it would be really nice if I could use the guts of an auto. tranny from a diesel jetta '99 up to transfer into my Vanagon auto tranny. Would you know who I could speak with that would be some kind of specialist in that area. Thanks, Michel Bertin NB.: Some people on that vanagon list are so rude I just can't believe it and on top of it they can't even read the questions correctly before answering with their stupid comments like smoking weed and looking under the van before questionning. |
