The difference is that the JX engine uses a varian of the VE injector pump that is unique to the turbodiesel Vanagon. The fuel boost aneroid for the Golf/Jetta sits on top of the pump. The stock engine lid will not fit without modification using this pump. The JX pump has a divorced fuel boost aneroid that mounts to the rear of the pump (toward the front of the van) with linkage that connects to the fuel boost mechanism in the pump.

Many folks on the list have modified their engine lids to use the car pump. I just don't want to do it. I'm at the point where I need to pay good money to have a TD pump rebuilt by a professional, and I would rather pay for a pump that is designed to fit the Vanagon with out modifying my engine lid.
