Look up Boston Engine on the internet. Robert Donalds has posted there the whole valve adjusting procedure for setting up a new engine.

I've got news. On a new engine it can take an hour to warm up/pump up those lifters. Just don't run it at speed until you get them right. If everything else is right, the lifters will eventually start to quiet down.
