Instead of zip-ties, I was in a pinch once and used 12 gauge sheathed solid
copper wire (the stuff you use in house wiring).  I just wrapped it around
and twisted, like you do with a bread bag.  I think "giant twist-tie" would
be a good description.

Of course, I haven't gone under to replace it yet, but it has been working
well for a few years now.  I'll just call it an experiment and leave it there
until it rots.  It shouldn't rust out like a coat hanger ;-)
