Were the Michelin MX series tires that were O.E. on Vanagons with alloy wheels 6-ply rated or a 6-ply tire? AFAIK, they weren't "C" or "D" load rated, but were a re-inforced sidewall passenger car tire with the appropriate load rating. The particular Kumho tires I have installed have a nylon sidewall re-inforcement band as part of the sidewall construction.

I've had 8-ply "D" rated tires on my van and didn't realize how much they compromised the handling and ride comfort of my van until I put the Kumho's on. So far, I have over 20,000 miles on them without a problem. Stability in cross-winds is no worse than with the "D" rated tires. Wear looks to be minimal, they should last at least 60,000 miles.
