Subject: Re: Converting a salvage title in CA

I am attempting a similar feat in Arizona. It is no fete' by any means.

My $200. 1980 Diesel Dasher needs to go through a "Level III" inspection prior to it being bestowed with what AZ calls a "restored" title. For a low dough car for personal usage I dont mind it having this type of a title. If it fails that inspection then it will flatly be illegal to drive on the street.

If it was anything other than a "throw-away" car then I would highly advise steering clear of either salvage or restored titles when shopping/buying.

I am looking to change the name from Dasher to Thrasher. =)

In order to get a restored title I had to make an appointment to have it thoroughly inspected. Everything that caused it to be condemned in the first place needs to be corrected. Body/frame/turn signals/running-brake lights and the basic systems of the vehicle. In my case it runs and drives great, just had a minor rear end tag that causes the rear hatchback not to latch.

I agree, once a salvage title, always a salvage title ~ of some flavor.

A vehicle that has a lost or abandoned title is a different story. -ellis\
