Carfax info about salvaged or junked vehicle is a little hinky. For instance... if the vehicle is bought in California as junked, but has not been registered as such by the owner, that vehicle could be registered on a clean title in Nevada and Carfax would not have a record of the vehicle being junked. Of course, if the vehicle is ever re-registered in California it would be issued a salvage title which would then show up on Carfax.

Cheers,

Jeff

They also have shell corporations in Nevada which people set-up to hide illegal gains. Just search under "bearer bonds". They don't cross report to the IRS.

Fortunately for us car folks, databases like Carfax can and do cross-reference salvage titles with VIN's. Nice clean bogusly obtained Nevada title with a tag in Carfax saying it's salvage. What did you gain?

Maybe the ability to defraud those who have never heard of things like Carfax.
