I don't want to switch the tranny itself I wanted to know if the interior parts from the jetta tranny (which I never seen) would fit inside the tranny on my Vanagon (keeping the tranny).

This way I would of had the good gearing ratio to put in a diesel engine. As you know I'm sure already the problem with a diesel swap when you have auto tranny is that your diesel engine would like to run at around 3000rpm on highway and would have to run at around 4000rpm with the vanagon tranny.

I did look under my van but that doesn't help much since what I want to swap is inside the transmission.

Not to be rude, or anything, but what are you smoking? Not even remotely similar items, you might as well try to put a Chevy transmission in the van. I hope you are not attempting anything like this on your own; please at least look at the underside of your van before you plan on something involved like an engine swap.  Scary, dude.
