To replace the torque converter or seals, it is easier to remove the
transmission than the engine. The torque converter has a bushing that
supports it on the transmission stator support. If this bushing is worn,
it will leak. It is replaceable. Also check that the surface the seal
rides on is not grooved. The seal should also be OEM from the dealer.

This project is making me crazy!  The Bentley and the Haynes do not
provide enough information on the auto transmission.  Does anyone know a
source for detailed vanagon auto trans rebuild/repair?  Just an exploded
photo/drawing of all the parts including torque converter would be
great!  I have now removed and installed the engine twice in as many
weeks trying to get this van back on the road.  I replaced the torque
converter seal the last time, but oil is still coming out of it when
running, so something else needs to be replaced, but what?
Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
