Off roading is a lot of fun and many times sphincter puckering. I've taken my '82 out on some pretty nasty and muddy back roads and she has performed splendidly. She is all stock with Yokohama tires. Nothing special added. The key is the engine being over the drive wheels. All of that weight lets her just dig right in. I've even had the opportunity to wave at giant 4x4's with mud tires as we pass each other, boy you should see the look on their faces :O

A whole bunch of little questions for all you vanagon junkies out there.

Can you off-road in a 2WD 84' Vanagon? I have been wanting to go offroading for awhile and I was wondering if I could go offroading with the stock setup?

What steps would I take to make my vanagon better to offroad in. I am thinking about the air suspension system, is this a wise investment? I have been noticing squeaks while driving in my suspention, could the air suspention fix/help this any?

What tires would you recommend that would be best for dirt and road on the 2WD vanagon?

Sorry for all the questions im a VDub newbie, Thanks Nick Young 84' Vanagon Wolfsberg
