Jon: I read with great interest all of the suggestions you offered for the various Tiico problems (vibration, exhaust cracking, welding / modifying of engine mounts, vibration, using a code reader and exhaust gas analyzer, burnt pistons, incorrect ignition timing, vibration, incorrect fuel pressure, setting fuel mixture adaptation, vibration, catastrophic engine failures, preference for 5 spd transmissions, lack of careful reading of the detailed (?) instruction manual, etc., etc. Very detailed and informative. But you spent barely one sentence on an excellent solution to ALL of these problems----

Install a SUBARU engine!!! (which doesn't need an additional $$ chip upgrade and cam "modifications", or have the above problems!)

I've been a member for all of three days and I must first start by thanking "Gerald Masar", "Tom Young", and "Chris Delong" for pointing out that this forum is rapidly becoming "full of fluff". Don't just click the delete key, hear what I have to say and then I'll go for good after I withstand the oncoming onslaught.

I own a VW specialty shop in Maine (Bay, Vanagon, Eurovan, Splitty) with a staff of three (young to old) with a combined total of over 100 years experience (no joke). -- (SNIP) --
