I ran into a German couple in Whitehorse Canada who had flown to Mexico City to begin a tour of North America, The began their journey by buying one of the Mexican Transporters with the little watercooled inline 4-banger in it. They Drove it through the west and on up into canada ant thats when I saw them, in Whitehorse. Their rig was a white panel van, body was circa 1978 and had a bif bulbous radiator mounted on the front, and a slanted engine in the rear. 15 degree slant as I recall. The guy was cleaned his filter while I was there so I got to see the engine, but it has been so long ago now that I don't remember much about it. But I do remember that the air filter was HUGE.The had modified it for camping and traveled as far north as they had time for. Whitehorse was it. Their next major destination regionwise was the East Coast. They really like the little van and it's performance. It was a bit spartan, but perfomed well. Can't get the vans registered in the US. And that is to bad. I wouldn't mind having one of them.
