OK - I found the oil filler behind the tag - thanks everyone! Added some oil and cruised around a bit more in my "new" 86 Syncro - FUN!

Still a VW & Vanagon newbie, but hopefully I have a couple of more worthy questions!

1) AC - the air conditioning is not functioning and I live in Seattle -so- I don't really need AC -so- I am planning on just removing the AC from the Van.

Comments/advice anyone?

I was looking at the engine and it looks like the center fan belt that goes to the AC compressor is only turning the AC compressor and nothing else. So- I suspect I can just remove the belt and the compressor - without affecting anything else. Correct?

2) Some oil looks like it is leaking out of the left valve cover. Will replacing the valve cover gaskets likely fix this problem? Are there any on-line instructions anywhere for doing this (hopefully simple) job? I don't wave a workshop manual yet - does the wire that goes over the valve cover clamp it down? No bolts?

Thanks, Howard Carter 86 Syncro ===
