Before you freak out. Take the sender out and crank the engine and see if
oil will come out the port.
--------------------- Next Action --------------------------------
There are a couple of things that can cause your new engine to NOT HAVE
oil pressure.
Here is what should have been done;
#1) Pack the pump with Vaseline, light grease or STP (even though it runs
out it still seals good).
#2) prefill the oil filter.
Try to absolutely remember if you put the new O ring on the oil pickup
tube.
As a point of getting there now I'd try to put oil down the oil pressure
sender port (turkey baster works) be patient it will eventually prime the
pump.
Fill the filter if you haven't.
Be sure your spark plugs are removed and crank the engine over with the
starter, don't put the coil wire in until you have oil pressure. Lube the
cylinders generously to get more cranking without overheating your
starter or killing your battery.
As a last resort you may have to remove the oil pump and pack it with
grease and be absolutely sure it seats in the cam drive properly. (The
pumps tend to jump out of the drive if the engine is rotated backwards
during assembly).
Heaven forbid but if you can't get pressure with the above methods you
might need to split the case, check the O ring on the pickup tube and
investigate #3 engine bearing to be sure it wasn't set on top of the
alignment pin (missed the pin).
I'd highly recommend installing an oil pressure gauge and carefully
monitoring your oil pressure on a new engine. You should have 5 bar (75
psi cold engine start) 3 bar (47 psi full temp engine at 3000 rpms) 1 - 2
bar ( 7- 14 psi full temp idle at 800/900 rpms).
