I hate to say it, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it, especially if it hasn't been cleaned regularly. Every car I've owned has been at least 20 years old until the Vanagon and invariably all the gunk that had collected in and around the engine compartment got to me until I cleaned it. Every time(well, OK, three times) I had a shiny looking engine and 2 or 3 new oil leaks.

A major repair or overhauling the entire system is one thing, but cleaning for cleaning's sake is asking for trouble, IMHO.

Cavaet cleanor...
